Choosing An Artist

Silk Street Music has a wide range of Artists in its portfolio. If you are having difficulty choosing the right Artist(s) before booking your live music and entertainment with us, then we offer the following advice:

Shortlist…

We recommend that you shortlist the Artists before making an enquiry after viewing their profile. Select groups of different sizes and Artists you like the look and sound of.

Set The Right Mood

How well suited are the Artists you have chosen to the style and nature of your event? Think carefully about your event and what sort of atmosphere you want to create; smooth and sophisticated, lively and celebratory or calm and serene? Consider the setting and try to visualise the Artists performing at the venue.

Style & Co-ordination

Does your event have a theme? What sort of room will the event be held in? Choose Artists who will fit in both visually and musically. Quite often it is easier to change the attire than the musical style. If you are unsure, make a decision about what the band sounds like rather than what they look like, as the appearance can be changed later. Perhaps you had something specific you wanted the band to wear? Our Artists will always accommodate this where possible.

Create The Right Impression

The size of the ensemble is also very important. How many guests will attend your event? If you are having a small party then often a 2, 3 or 4 piece band will suffice. However, if you want to create a striking impact, then you definitely want to hire a larger group that is amplified and has a PA system so that the sound carries. Do not forget to consider your guests too, try to choose an Artists who will appeal broadly to as many people as possible.

Location and Space

Will your event be inside or outside? Certain Artists are able to perform outside, whereas others need a power supply, so need to be situated inside. If you would like the Artists to perform outside then cover will need to be provided, as they may need to shelter from direct sunlight or rain. Perhaps you want the Artists to stroll around? For this we advise all-acoustic artists that do not need any power. If inside, don’t forget to consider the size of the room too. Will the Artists fit into the space available? Some Artists carry a lot of equipment, DJ’s and Function bands use PA systems, mixing desks and sometimes lighting, whereas a mobile jazz band or solo Artist will need minimal space, if in doubt check with the venue.

Musical Requests

Did you have a particular type of music in mind? Are there special requests that you would like performed. If so, think carefully about the Artists you hire and the style of music they perform. Whilst all of our musicians are versatile, there are limits to their abilities, often determined by the combination of instruments used. Here are a few examples: it is no good asking a band without a singer or electric guitar to perform songs by Queen or a solo musician to recreate the sound of a big band, it is just not physically possible! Be sure of who you are hiring, be realistic and make requests before the event.

Costs

Have an approximate idea of the budget you have for your event entertainment. As a rule, the more Artists you hire the higher the cost. Silk Street Music will always recommend the most suitable Artist for your event and will tailor things to meet your requirements.
