Whatever the nature of your company event, corporate dinner, office party or product launch, Silk Street Music offers bespoke entertainment to make your event a success. Here are some helpful hints, tips and suggestions to help you get the entertainment part right.
Clientele
The most important part of any corporate function is the guests. How many will be attending and does your entetainment cater for all of them? You will want them to enjoy themselves and to leave the event you organised, feeling proud to be associated with you and your company. By adding that personal touch through live entertainment you can help people relax, feel at ease and make new connections.
Choices
The entertainment should reflect the nature of your event. Here are some ideas:
- Are you having a product launch or anniversary? Ask the Artists to perform the company theme tune or jingle.
- Are you organising a leaving party for a work colleague? Why not incorporate their favourite pieces of music.
- Inject that lively feel into the company fun-day by hiring a traditional jazz band, ideal entertainment for the children too!
- Think about the type of atmosphere you want to create? Sophisticated, relaxed, celebratory, formal, informal.

Costs
If you are looking to keep costings down, think about the number of Artists your are hiring. The more musicians hired the greater the cost. However, all of our Artists are highly skilled and there is a possiblity of hiring one set of musicians who are able to perform two or more styles of music. An example of this would be as follows: hire a traditional jazz trio to welcome guests, a solo Artist to perform during dinner and a five piece swing band with singer for the evening. Isn’t that three different ensembles or nine musicians? No, it is actually three ensembles provided by hiring only five musicians, therefore keeping your costs down to a minimum. Background Music
Ask yourself what role the entertainment will play? Background, foreground or a combination of the two? Whatever the event, your guests will at some point need to speak comfortably with one another, whether it is over dinner or during the drinks reception. Hiring unobtrusive music that plays a background part is important and creates a perfect backdrop for your guests to make conversation.
Tip: Jazz Singers, Quartets, Trios, Duos and Solo Artists work well as the music performed is low-key and played at suitable volume level.
Foreground Music
Perhaps you are having a company party and later on you require the music to become more prominent. For foreground music, hiring a larger ensemble is advisable, using the drums can create that urge to dance. For the larger corporate party take a look at our Function and Party Bands, Dance Bands, or Big Bands. These Artists are very well received at the larger corporate events and guaranteed to give your guests a great time.
Venue & Location
Where will the Artists be performing? On the steps greeting the guests as they arrive? In the marquee entertaining the guests throughout the meal? On the stage inside the venue? It is very important that the Artists hired have somewhere to carry out their performance, whether inside or outside. If you seek a strolling act, make sure there will be enough room for them to perform. Remember, if there are too many guests or limited space, the Artists will end up being stationary and restricted to one location. Do you require the Artists to perform in two or three different locations in the building? Take into consideration the Artists’ requirements for performance. Some Artists will need access to power, also a room to change and rest in throughout any break periods.

Schedule
How long will your event be and how long would you like to hire the Artists for? Generally, the longer the Artists are on site, the higher the cost. If you would like the evening entertainment to be set up earlier on in the day, before the meal or speeches then quite often this will increase costs. Remember for the most part you are paying for the Artists’ time. Depending on location, events that finish late in the evening may require you to cover accomodation costs for the Artists. If the event schedule does run late, simply ask the Artists and they may agree to perform past the agreed finish time for you (at an extra cost).
Tip: If in doubt, book the Artists for longer just in case.
Speeches
Whether it is to tell your clients about your recent successes or to simply say thank you for coming, speeches are an important part of any company event. Simply give our Artists a few bars to pause the performance and then make your announcements. Is there a PA system available at the venue to make any announcements? If not, perhaps you will require Silk Street Music to provide one? The use of a PA system very much depends on the number of guests and the size of the function space. If in doubt please liaise with us and we will help you.
