How To Choose Entertainment For Your Party…
Choosing the most suitable entertainment can be difficult, however we are pleased to offer some suggestions. Whatever the reason to party, it is definitely a special occasion, so your entertainment should reflect this. Things to consider:
- Style of music. Do you have a favourite genre or band?
- Repertoire. Do you have any special requests or favourite songs?
- Type of atmosphere you would like to create.
- Role of the entertainment. Background/Foreground or a combination of the two?
- Number of Artists hired. Some Artists are able to perform different styles, helping to keep costs down.

Venue & Location
Where will your party be held? At home or in the back garden, in a hotel or perhaps you have hired a special function room? There are many different types of party venue. We recommend you choose entertainment that will complement the venue and fit in with the theme of your party. Our Artists are very adaptable and perform at hundreds of venues every year.

Location
Our Artists travel nationwide and even abroad. Once you have decided on a venue, consider where you would like the Artists to perform. Some examples are:
- At the entrance as guests arrive.
- In the marquee, entertaining the guests throughout the meal.
- On the stage in front of the dance floor.
It is very important that the Artists have somewhere to carry out their performance, whether inside or outside, and that’s weather permitting too! Make sure a strolling act has enough room to perform. Perhaps you wanted them to wander between the tables or perform in two or three different locations; in the house, on the patio or on the balcony. Remember, if there are too many guests or limited space, the Artists will end up being stationary and restricted to one location. Take into consideration the Artists’ requirements for performance. Some will need access to power, also a room to change and rest in throughout any break periods.
Theme
For themed parties, our Artists will add that extra dimension to your event. Whether it is a gangster, James Bond, 1920’s, beach party, big band, children’s party, school disco, blind date, mardis gras or murder mystery, we have got entertainment to match your themed party and make it come alive. Maybe you require the Artists to dress up in costumes and perform a specific theme tune? By booking through Silk Street Music, your party ideas will become real.
Timings
Consider how long you would like to hire the Artists for? Generally, the longer the Artists are on site, the higher the cost. If you would like the evening entertainment to be set up earlier on in the day, before the dinner or speeches then let us know as this may affect costs. Depending on location, events that finish late in the evening might require you to cover accomodation costs for the Artists. If the party schedule does run late, simply ask the Artists and they may agree to perform past the agreed finish time for you (at an extra cost).
Tip: If in doubt, book the Artists for longer than required.
Speeches
Whether it is to reminisce over the past forty years or simply thank the guests for coming, speeches are an important element of any party. Is there a PA system available at the venue to make any announcements? If not, perhaps you will require Silk Street Music to provide one?
Tip: Try to keep the speeches to a set length as they can affect the running schedule and cause your event to run late!
Requests
Silk Street Music accomodates their clients in every way possible. Why not keep the children entertained or sing along to a musical rendition of Happy Birthday as you cut the cake? Perhaps you want the Artists to make a secret entrance and surprise the guests or serenade everyone at the tables.
Tip: If you have any special requests, simply put them to us when you enquire or place a booking and we will do our best to perform them.
Guests
Pleasing all of your guests can be a challenge, however by taking your pick from our varied portfolio of entertainment, you can be sure to appeal to everybody’s tastes. Whether it is the latest chart hit, rock and roll from the 60s, songs from the golden era or entertainment for the children, you can be sure we have something for everyone.
Costs
If you are looking to keep costings down, think about the number of Artists your are hiring. The more musicians hired the greater the cost. However, all of our Artists are highly skilled and there is a possiblity of hiring one set of musicians who are able to perform two or more styles of music. An example of this would be as follows: hire a traditional jazz trio to welcome guests, a solo Artist to perform during dinner and a five piece swing band with singer for the evening. Isn’t that three different ensembles or nine musicians? No, it is actually three ensembles provided by hiring only five musicians, therefore keeping your costs down to a minimum.
